The problem of ideology is to give an account, within a materialist theory, of how social ideas arise.
We need to understand what their role is in a particular social formation, so as to inform the sturggle to change society and open the road towards a socialist transformation of society.
By ideology I mean the mental frameworks - the languages, the concepts, categories, imagery of thought, and the systems of representation - which different classes and social groups deploy in order to make sense of, define, figure out and render intelligible the way society works.
